by Julian Spivey Paramount+ Streaming Service – Premieres: Thursday, March 4 I know, I know, you’re probably thinking: “do we really need another streaming service?” I completely understand the fatigue involved with the number of streaming platforms that have come out over the last few years and how trying to watch stuff on all of them effectively results in spending as much money on streaming as you may have once down on cable before cutting the cord. Paramount+, which is a rebranding of CBS All Access with the addition of more titles and many more upcoming series in production, debuts Thursday, March 4 and may not be a must-have streaming platform at the start as it’s basically going to continue to have the programming from CBS All Access with the only new programming debuting on March 4 being a reunion of the original “The Real World” cast and a new “SpongeBob SquarePants,” but the future will see revivals of the award-winning ‘90s sitcom “Frasier” and multiple sequels to the popular Paramount Network drama series “Yellowstone.” Paramount+ will begin with more than 30,000 television episodes and 2,500 movies and will have 36 original shows debuting in its first year. At the beginning the platform will be $10/month, but in June comes a cheaper base tier with less programming included for $5/month that is supported with advertisements. If you’re currently a CBS All Access subscriber you will automatically have your membership transferred to Paramount+. “Coming 2 America” (Amazon Prime Video) Premieres: Friday, March 5 OK, confession time. I’ve made it more than 32 years on this planet without somehow ever seeing the Eddie Murphy/Arsenio Hall 1988 comedy classic “Coming to America.” I know, blasphemous. I’m going to get around to watching it very soon because the long-awaited sequel “Coming 2 America” premieres this upcoming Friday, March 5 on Amazon Prime. Murphy and Hall reprise their original roles and play many others in the film, as well, as Murphy’s Prince Akeem Joffer is set to become King of Zamunda when he discovers he has a son in America he’s never known about (played by Jermaine Fowler). “Nate Bargatze: The Greatest Average American” (Netflix) Premieres: Thursday, March 18 I first saw stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze perform a set on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon” a few years ago and was in hysterics the entire time. He quickly became one of my favorite active stand-ups and I loved his 2019 Netflix stand-up special “The Tennessee Kid.” Bargatze’s newest stand-up special “The Greatest Average American” comes to Netflix on Thursday, March 18 and I can’t wait to once again spend the entire hour laughing until my side hurts. “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” (Disney+) – Premieres: Friday, March 19 Second confession. I’m really not much of a superhero person. I’m mostly putting this on the monthly streaming recommendations because it’s going to be such a popular addition to the Disney+ platform. “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” which was supposed to be Disney+’s first original Marvel series but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was beaten to the punch by “WandaVision,” is debuting on the streaming service on Friday, March 19. “The Falcon and the Winter Solider” stars Anthony Mackie as Falcon and Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier reprising their roles from previous Marvel movies.
