Netflix brought us a new original, “Army of the Dead,” directed by Zack Snyder, and it does not disappoint. In “Army of the Dead,” Las Vegas has been overrun by zombies. With no humans around the cash inside the casinos is up for grabs and waiting for someone to come rescue it. Dave Bautista is that person. He’s joined by a group of loveable, and perhaps some unloveable, characters who are ready to strike a zombie at any second. However, these zombies are more intelligent than we’re used to seeing in typical zombie films so you can imagine all the challenges that come their way. Netflix really nailed this great, action-packed, zombie slaying film. The cast were all wonderful in their roles and the characters were so diverse and interesting. The concept of making the zombies appear as a true army with a leader really worked. It’s something that I personally haven’t seen before in a zombie slasher movie but it was a great perspective. The fight scenes were well done, not too much gore where I felt as if I was going to hurl but also not watered down. The special effects were also really solid. And when I say that I am referring to the zombie tiger (featured in the previews) who is just so great. How to make a zombie movie better you ask? Add a ruthless zombie tiger. All in all, I thought this movie was really well done and I was impressed with everything about it. I saw “Army of the Dead” in the theater, which was a great experience, but it is also currently streaming on Netflix for those who may not be ready to go out to the cinema yet.
