Country music star Joe Nichols performed a benefit concert at the Clear Channel Metroplex in Little Rock on Wednesday (July 7) to help raise money for the East End fire department which was destroyed by a tornado on April 30. The Rogers, Ark. native performed a free hour long show in which he volunteered his time and wasn’t paid for the performance. Donations were accepted to help rebuild the fire department. The set was short, but the Metroplex was packed with hundreds of excited fans pumped to see Nichols perform. Nichols opened his set with his first number one song “Brokenheartsville” from his 2002 album “Man with a Memory.” Nichols performed most of his hit songs from his eight-year career including his first single “The Impossible” from 2002, along with “What’s a Guy Gotta Do,” “She Only Smokes When She Drinks,” “Size Matters (Someday),” “I’ll Wait for You” and his most recent number one “Gimme That Girl.” “I’ll Wait for You” was likely Nichols best performance of the night. There weren’t many dry eyes in the crowd following his performance of the tear-jerker. Nichols also performed his upcoming single “The Shape I’m In,” which he said would be released in a few weeks. The song is sure to be another hit. Before Nichols finished his show off with his crowd-pleasing hit “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” he invited former Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback Clint Stoerner to the stage and the two of them led the crowd in a “Hog Call” chant that every Razorbacks fan knows by heart. It was a great show by Nichols as a performer and an even greater thing for him to do as a human being to help out a community that really needs it.
