by Julian Spivey “Community” – Netflix – Now One of the greatest sitcoms of the last decade was NBC’s and later Yahoo’s (remember when Yahoo tried to do original programming for like that one year?) “Community,” which was never a huge hit for the network (hence the switch to Yahoo for the final season), but a cult phenomenon with some terrifically unique episodes like season one’s “Modern Warfare” and season three’s “Remedial Chaos Theory.” The entire six season series starring Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and more is now available on Netflix and if you never saw it the first time around would make for a great quarantine viewing. “Blazing Saddles” – Hulu – Now If you’re looking for a classic comedy that would never be greenlit in today’s society to laugh at during your time at home quarantining, I highly recommend Mel Brooks’ 1974 Western spoof “Blazing Saddles.” Starring a terrific twosome of Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder (Brooks’ greatest performer) and with stand-up comedy legend Richard Pryor as one of Brooks’ co-writers the humor is incredibly witty in its satirizing of racism in the American West with a black man (Little) becomes sheriff of a town. “Blazing Saddles” was ranked as the sixth funniest American comedy of all-time by the American Film Institute and can now be streamed on Netflix. “Parasite” – Hulu – April 8 If you never got around to watching South Korea’s “Parasite,” which became the first film to ever win the Academy Award for both Best Picture and Best International Feature in February, it makes its American streaming premiere on Hulu on Wednesday, April 8. The black-comedy thriller from director Bong Joon-ho took the entire film industry around the world by storm last year with its take on classicism and will no doubt see many new eyes via Hulu. “The Good Fight” – CBS All Access – April 9 “The Good Fight,” which will premiere its fourth season on Thursday, April 9, has been the best original series for CBS All Access since that streaming platform debuted in 2017. The spinoff of “The Good Wife,” which aired on CBS from 2009-2016, follows the career of Christine Baranski’s marvelous attorney Diane Lockhart and the third season ended with a threat to her and her husband, played by the terrific Gary Cole, who were being swatted. Unfortunately, the fourth season of the show is likely to be split in two with the Covid-19 pandemic shutting down production before work on the season was wrapped. “Run” – HBO GO – April 12 Everyone has been waiting on pins and needles to seeing what “Fleabag” creator, writer and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge would be connected to next after “Fleabag” wrapped last year. HBO’s new black-comedy thriller “Run” isn’t her baby, but that of her friend Vicky Jones, but she’s still involved as an executive producer and in a recurring supporting role. The showing premiering on HBO on Sunday, April 12 and then on its streaming services shortly after features the talented cast of Merrit Wever and Domhnall Gleason about old college sweethearts who agreed almost two decades earlier they’d drop everything for each other if one text the other ‘RUN.’ It’s an interesting premise for a series that’s kept much else about the plot secretive.
